About the Author
The award-winning book Contemporary Quilt Art: An Introduction and Guide grew from the author’s interest in understanding the relationship between studio quilts and other forms of visual art. She shares the fruits of her study with the public in this book.
Since its publication in 2008, Kate has written about quilts and fiber art for several national journals and magazines. These include Surface Design Journal, Fiberarts, the online edition of AmericanStyle, and the website of the Studio Art Quilt Associates. As an adjunct lecturer in 2009, she taught Pieced Construction in the textile program at Indiana University. In the same year, she lectured at the Textile Museum in Washington, DC and at Baylor University in Waco, TX on Textile Traditions in Contemporary Quilt Art. A quiltmaker herself since the 1990s and recipient of several awards at the Indiana State Fair during that decade, her quilts appear in both public and private settings. A Call to Service is exhibited at the Washington, D.C. headquarters of the Corporation for National and Community Service. For Everything There Is a Season hangs at Congregation ShaareyTefilla in Carmel, Indiana. Kate’s writing and textile art derive from interest in both traditional and contemporary art and textile forms.
