My work was originally influenced by the textile traditions I discovered in historical textile arts from around the world. Using weave structures, embroidery, and the formal elements of color and line, I strive to create compositions that evoke a particular feeling or sense of place. One series embodies a personal experience of music.
In 2015, I added relief and screen prints to my portfolio. The prints are mostly narrative. Some are incorporated into quilts; others stand alone.

Contemporary Quilt Art: An Introduction and Guide
by Kate Lenkowsky
A beautifully illustrated introduction to the contemporary art of quilting, which presents both established and emerging artists and provides invaluable information for quilter and collector alike.
2008 Gold Prize Winner, Book of the Year
Art Category, ForeWord Magazine
"Lenkowsky's survey of the studio-quilt movement makes an important contribution to scholarship on the evolution and current status of the movement. Like a quilt, her writing is approachable, encouraging readers to explore the sequence of events that, over the last forty years, have led to the genres's wide range of styles. One hundred forty-two color illustrations enhance detailed profiles of nineteen artists, resource guides for buyers and collectors, and chapters on the practicalities of insuring and caring for quilts."
